Farming Highlights
Marketing Freedom Day
In August 2012 Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited Rosana Farms to announce changes to the Canadian Wheat Board, the event being called “Marketing Freedom Day”.
Other special guests were Minister of Agriculture Gerry Ritz and MP David Anderson.
Art Walde was a life-long crusader for Marketing Freedom and we honour him for his efforts to this cause.
Fraser Valley Gleaners
Founded in 1999, the Fraser Valley Gleaners has long been a charity close to the hearts of the Walde family. Robin’s Dad, Art, was enamoured with the work done by his relatives in Abbotsford. It was always his dream to haul a load of lentils out to be used in the soup mix that is processed for shipping to people groups who are food deprived.
In 2013 Robin was able to haul his first load of red lentils and has returned 7 times since. He is always met by an enthusiastic group of volunteers who unload the commodity into barrels, where it is stored until the soup mix is made.
There is an album on Brenda’s Facebook page that tells a story in pictures.
